Occasional Ramblings with a Camera

This blog is my occasional ramblings on here, there and about, with and very occasionally without a camera. Photography, art, landscape (principally Scottish), heritage and wildlife are the things that interest me the most, so thats what I'll be writing about and of course showing pictures of. They say that a photograph is worth a thousand words, well I'm not so sure about that but if it is then great as it will save me a heap of typing, all power to the image.

from Glen Beanie to Venice - Journeys

For several years I've been working in a small fairly unassuming glen, just off the much larger and itself lovely Glen Isla. Glen Beanie however has an amazing range of possibilities to explore, archaeology evidential from Neolithic to the more recent. Cup marked stones, hut circles and the more recent folds and shieling huts of subsistence farmers.
One of my projects was to parallel the transhumance to the shieling grounds with that of the Grand Tour by the wealthy to Europe and specifically via the Alps to Venice and Rome.
I wanted to bring Glen Beanie to Venice, to contrast the two places and 'cultures'. Both of importance albeit in different ways.
I managed this past weekend to bring it in part full circle, with the landscape of Glen Beanie placed in Venice, symbolically encountering Venice and that of Venice encountering Glen Beanie. There is a much more extended sequence in process of Glen Beanie in Venice and encountering contemporary art, our current 'culture'.
