Moredun Top* hillfort is just to the South East of Perth and commands an amazing view. You can see why it was such a strategic location and as a hillfort was so important over a period of time, encompassing numerous changes and several phases of ramparts. Of course if you remove the commercial woodland on the hill the view would be even better. Tay Landscape Partnership, along with AOC archaeology have been carrying out an archaeological dig, opening up several trenches (not all visible on panorama), principally across the substantial defensive walls and possible broch.

This quick 360 degree panorama (link or click on image) gives a good indication of the forts strategic location, looking down the Firth of Tay to the East, Sidlaw Hills with their own numerous hill forts to the North and the Lomonds to the South, Strathearn to the West.

*Moredun Top is generally incorrectly referred to as Moncrieff Hill by Perth people though that hill is actually just slightly to the west and lower. It also has a hillfort or enclosed walled top to it, excavated earlier in the year.
